Women LEAD U.S. Board Member Position Profile

We are looking for a committed board member to serve on the Women LEAD U.S. Board, which is a governing body for Women LEAD Nepal, a leading Nepali non-profit providing young women in Nepal with skills, support and opportunities to become leaders and change-makers in their schools, communities, nation and the world.  

Women LEAD U.S. is a U.S.-registered 501c3 not-for-profit organization.  The U.S. Board member’s responsibilities include advising Women LEAD Nepal on strategic plans, conducting leadership appraisals, monitoring its programmatic and financial affairs, as well as ensuring compliance with U.S. laws, including annual tax filing.  It also involves preparing and actively participating in quarterly board meetings.

To be successful as a board member you should have professional leadership experience and strong diplomatic skills.  An outstanding board member will be passionate and committed to the organization’s mission.  We especially encourage those who have a U.S. non-profit law background, are a tax professional, or are experienced in individual or foundations’ fundraising to apply.  Please send your resume and statement of interest to: simrikam@women-lead.org

Board Member Responsibilities:

  • Knowing the organization’s mission, programs, policies, and needs.
  • Preparing for meetings by contributing to and reviewing the agenda and supporting documentation.
  • Regularly attending board meetings and participating actively and conscientiously.
  • Keeping up with issues and trends that affect the organization.
  • Contributing to the development of policies and strategic plans.
  • Understanding the organization’s financial affairs and ensuring fiduciary responsibilities are met.
  • Ensuring the organization complies with legal requirements, including tax filing annually.
  • Maintaining confidentiality in all internal organizational affairs.

Board Member Requirements:

  • Proven track record in an executive leadership role.
  • Previous experience serving on a board is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the organization’s mission, goals, and understanding of the broader non-profit sector.
  • Sufficient time availability for board duties.
  • Strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly preferred: finance/accounting, U.S. non-profit law, and fundraising.
